Sherwood Forest Cleanup

The Chemeketa campus consists of two major centers separated by a little area called Sherwood Forest. Sherwood Forest has a winding footpath that, for a few minutes, takes you away from all civilization into a beautiful arena of nature.

I’ve always loved walking amongst the trees and hills, though I had never been able to put my finger on why. There’s something special about it, but it’s not a feeling, like being happy or angry. Walking through Sherwood Forest yesterday, I think I figured it out. It’s about being.

When I walk amid the beauty of the natural world, I become a different person. My perceptions and priorities change. Even my thoughts flow differently. It’s more than just feeling good — in a sense, it’s an altered state of consciousness. And I like the person I become there.
