The Dwight Schrute Corollary

Dwight Schrute from The Office offers us these words of wisdom:

Whenever I’m about to do something, I think, “Would an idiot do that?” And if they would, I do not do that thing.

I think that’s a valuable approach to decision making. It also lends itself to a corollary:

Whenever I have a goal in life, I think of people who have achieved that goal, and ask, “Has it made them happy?” And if not, I do aspire to that goal.
