I’ll go on the record now: Palin is a worse VP pick than Dan Quayle. A complete hail mary by McCain that will crash and burn within a month.
In addition, I question McCain’s judgement by putting a 44-year old hockey mom a heartbeat away from being the leader of the free world. But I’m sure [...]

The Sweetest Perfection

In 1990, Oscar Mayer took the snack foods market by storm with their new snack line, the Lunchable. This product, the result of five painstaking years of research by Oscar Mayer R&D, was targeted directly at Nabisco’s “Lunch-O-Rama”, then heavyweight in the world of snack foods. As Oscar Mayer planned, the Lunchables’ perfectly balanced, convenient, [...]
Plan C – Retreat

The is the story of how I discovered the basic parenting skill that I’m sure the rest of you are already aware of.
I was sitting at the table with Alanna the other night while she was coloring a picture of a horse. She enjoys coloring and has gotten pretty good at it. However, she has [...]
Glittering Leaves

As we were driving to work this morning, we passed the poplar orchards that line the highway. Poplars are used to make paper pulp, and poplar orchards are fairly common here. This morning, our commute coincided with the sunrise, and the sun shone at us through the leaves of the trees.
With the sun directly behind [...]
Back to School Childen!

I have good news for those sad few individuals who enjoy the pain and dysphoria of others. School is once again starting for both myself and my wife. I shouldn’t complain as I have numerous friends and acquaintances with children, full time jobs, and 12-15 credits in mostly upper division classes; still, I do complain and [...]
Short Work Day

I carpool to work with my father-in-law. He drives, and I help pay for gas. This setup means that I often don’t have control over my work departure and arrival times. For example, he prefers working from 8:00 to 4:30, which means taking a half-hour lunch. I’d rather work till 5:00 and get the full [...]
Movies – Solaris and Spirited Away

In keeping with my previous comparative media review, I’ve decided to give you my contrasting thoughts on two relatively unknown yet obscure movies. Last week, due to a new baby birth in Heather’s family, I got to leave work a couple hours early. With an evening to fill and nothing planned, we rented the highly [...]
Electrical Overconfidence

I am not an electrical engineer. My degree is in Astrophysics. And you don’t do much wiring or soldering in astrophysics. But now that I have an electrical engineering job, I magically expect myself to know how to wire things in my house. If I come across an electrical issue at home, my job title [...]
Easter Song

I was asked to play a song at church for Easter Sunday this year. I decided to make an arrangement of “He Is Risen”, since it was, at the time, my least favorite of the three or four Easter hymns in the hymnal.
I recently discovered that WordPress allows you to put up songs on the [...]
Wab, Hm-Ntr, and Hm-Ka

I’ve been reading up on Egyptian hieroglyphics just for fun. One thing I’ve gotten from the book is that the Egyptians had three different words for priest: wab, hm-ntr, and hm-ka. They kind of translate to pure-person, god-person, and spirit-person, respectively.
The book didn’t go into any detail about the relative roles of the three, but [...]
